Desktop Architects on Linux Sound and Multimedia
From The Linux Foundation
Observations
- Audio on Linux sucks. Developers don't know which interface to use.
- No clear vision from kernel, distros, or application developers.
- Problems: CODECs, configuration, multiple apps through HW device
- APIs needed for integrating audio applications
- No venue to discuss audio
- Professional vs consumer
Next steps
- Focus only on audio as a first step and audio/video syncronisation is almost guaranteed to be a problem later
- Create a focus group on what is needed from audio APIs.
- Create use cases
- Target Linux Audio Conference for face to face meeting
